Creating a metaphorical story response.

Visual design of the story in a comic strip format.

Middle management.

This is a typical product I create for the clients. It is for internal corporative use and not intended for public display. These examples have been approved by the clients for portfolio use, without disclosing their names.

Project 1. The Importance of Preparation for the Meetings.

Challenge:

The company reached out the business consulting & education agency with the needs of improving the skills and collaboration of middle managers within one of its departments. The company requested a business training that, among other things, addressed and analysed issues related to team interaction.

Additionally, the company asked for a visual product based on the training outcomes, aiming to illustrate one of the necessary changes in a visual meme format.

Process:

Interview.

After the training I had an interview with the business consultant who worked with the team and Identified the most typical and significant problems within the team. On this stage I also had all the information from the client about their needs and expectations.

Key issues.

During the interview I chose a few issues that could be effectively illustrated:

  • Low productivity in meetings due to managers arriving unprepared.

  • Unclear understanding of personal responsibility for their work.

  • The need to think about the bigger picture and approach tasks with a strategic mindset.

My role is not to analyse the reasons behind these issues, but to create visual motivation and reminders to encourage different behaviours.

Scenarios Creating.

I created a few ideas for scenarios, a few metaphors about the issues, some dialogue for the characters. All this ideas were send to the client for the remarks and approval. After finalising the concept and storyline for the illustration, I created the visual material.

In this case the client approved the metaphor:

«Attending a meeting unprepared is like going on a hike without the necessary gear, hoping others will do all or part of the work for you».

The Importance of Preparation for the Meetings.

The project typically takes 2-4 days to complete and involves creating a concise, simple visual. The final product is distributed via internal email to all training participants, with the option for them to print and display the illustration at their workspace.

The goal of the comic strip is to emotionally engage the audience, visually highlight the flaws in the old behavior patterns, and incorporate typical language and phrases that employees can recognise in themselves and their colleagues.

Project 2. Focusing on Solutions Over Form.

Challenge:

As requested, the company received a business training session that explored and addressed organisational issues. Additionally, the company requested a visual product based on the training outcomes, aiming to illustrate one of the necessary changes in a visual meme format.

Process:

All the stages are similar to those in Project 1. Therefore, I would like to focus on the issues and specifics of this project.

The primary challenge in this case stems from the following issue: the team is composed of individuals from creative fields, with creativity being a core part of their identity and style. For a long time, the company leadership encouraged a creative approach to work. However, over time, a problem emerged where creativity began to overshadow practicality and rationality. The organisation wanted to convey to employees that the primary goal should be to solve the problem effectively, not just to showcase creativity.

After identifying the problem, I developed ideas for scenarios that would metaphorically illustrate it.

The chosen concept was to highlight the absurdity and futility of a creative approach that lacks rationality.
